Description & Requirements

WHAT MAKES US A GREAT PLACE TO WORK

We are proud to be consistently recognized as one of the world’s best places to work. We are currently the top ranked consulting firm on Glassdoor's Best Places to Work list and have earned the #1 overall spot a record seven times. Extraordinary teams are at the heart of our business strategy, but these don’t happen by chance. They require intentional focus on bringing together a broad set of backgrounds, cultures, experiences, perspectives, and skills in a supportive and inclusive work environment. We hire people with exceptional talent and create an environment in which every individual can thrive professionally and personally.

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You'll join Bain's NextGen Software Solutions (NGSS) team, where we build and support software products that help power the firm's work. As Staff Engineer I, DevOps & Assurance, you will work closely with software engineers, architects, product managers, and business stakeholders to drive technical direction, contribute to delivery quality, and ensure our platforms are scalable, reliable, secure, and audit-ready.

WHERE YOU'LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

As Staff Engineer I, DevOps & Assurance, you will be a senior individual contributor within a squad of DevOps engineers responsible for building, operating, and scaling Bain's next-generation digital platforms. Your work ensures technology is delivered securely, reliably, and in full compliance with Bain's engineering and governance standards across our global ecosystem.

This is an individual contributor role. You will not carry formal people management responsibilities, but you are expected to demonstrate technical leadership - setting a high engineering bar, mentoring peers, and influencing technical decisions across the team.

You will contribute meaningfully to the team's delivery backlog - taking ownership of well-scoped work items, proactively identifying gaps, and collaborating closely with your team lead to sequence and prioritize effort. You will remain deeply hands-on: architecting infrastructure, writing and reviewing code, and elevating the technical quality of everything your team ships.

You will be a key contributor to the assurance posture of the platforms your team operates - encompassing security controls, compliance frameworks, quality gates, and audit readiness - while championing a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Infrastructure & Automation - 25%

  • Design, provision, and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform and env0. Lead infrastructure-as-code standards and review practices.
  • Automate deployments to ensure scalability, consistency, and security across environments.

Cloud & Platform Management (Azure) - 20%

  • Manage and govern Azure networking, databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB), and identity tooling (Entra ID, Okta).
  • Ensure robust access controls, platform reliability, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain audit trails and enforce least-privilege principles.

CI/CD, Assurance & Software Delivery - 15%

  • Design and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.
  • Embed quality gates, automated testing, vulnerability scanning, and policy enforcement into delivery workflows.
  • Champion a shift-left approach to security and assurance.

Technical Leadership & Peer Mentoring - 15%

  • Act as a technical anchor for your squad, setting standards, sharing expertise, and mentoring engineers at earlier career stages.
  • Participate actively in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions. Influence how the team solves hard problems without needing formal authority.

Backlog Contribution & Delivery Planning - 15%

  • Contribute to the team's engineering backlog by helping translate strategic priorities, architectural decisions, and operational needs into well-scoped work items.
  • Collaborate on sprint planning, balance reactive and proactive work, and surface risks and trade-offs to your team lead and stakeholders.

Monitoring, Reliability & Optimization - 10%

  • Contribute to observability strategy using Datadog and Azure Application Insights.
  • Define and track SLOs, support incident response and post-mortem culture, and drive cost and reliability optimization across platforms.
