Company Profile

Bain & Company is one of the top management consulting firms in the world that helps the world’s most ambitious changemakers define the future.

Across 65 cities in 40 countries, we work alongside our clients as one team with a shared ambition to achieve extraordinary results, outperforming the competition, and redefine industries. We complement our tailored, integrated expertise with a vibrant ecosystem of digital innovators to deliver better, faster, and more enduring outcomes.

The firm established several functions in the Indian market early 2000s and its remit across functions has expanded over time. Since 2019, these functions have become part of Global Business Services (GBS). Global Business Services (GBS) is a network of five interconnected business functions hubs across India, Poland, Malaysia, Mexico and Portugal, serving Bain globally to run our business, support other functions, and help drive innovation internally. We are over 1000 business professionals – serving functions in operations, HR, finance, legal, tech, marketing, research, and data analytics – who support our offices globally. Our mantra of “shared innovation, seamless execution,” underpinned by a passion for results, teamwork, and creativity, helps Bain stay at the top of our game operationally.

What makes us a great place to work

We are proud to be consistently recognized as one of the world’s best places to work. We are currently the top-ranked consulting firm on Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list and have earned the #1 overall spot a record seven times.

Extraordinary teams are at the heart of our business strategy, but these don’t happen by chance. They require intentional focus on bringing together a broad set of backgrounds, cultures, experiences, perspectives, and skills in a supportive and inclusive work environment. We hire people with exceptional talent and create an environment in which every individual can thrive professionally and personally.

Job Summary

We are hiring a Software Engineer to solve real business problems for the functions that keep Bain running. From Finance to Legal, HR, Risk, and more you will build full-stack software, AI agents, integrations, and workflow products that turn messy, ambiguous business needs into reliable, working software. You will partner closely with the people who use what you ship ensuring it is correct, reliable, maintainable, and clearly communicated.

This role suits high-initiative builders with strong software fundamentals who treat AI as a force multiplier - using it not only to deliver more, but to deliver faster, more efficiently, and to a higher standard.

What Makes This Role Different

  • You will work on real business problems with users close enough to give fast feedback.
  • You will use AI development tools as part of the normal engineering workflow, not as a side experiment.
  • You will be encouraged to compress the path from idea to working software without lowering the engineering bar.
  • You will build across the stack: frontend, backend, data, APIs, integrations, and agentic workflows.
  • You will be expected to ship quickly while still writing code that another engineer can understand, test, and extend.
  • You will learn across domains instead of specializing only in one platform or one automation tool.

What You Will Build

  • Internal tools that turn messy business processes into structured, trackable workflows.
  • AI agents that draft, check, route, summarize, or monitor work with appropriate human review.
  • Full-stack applications for Bain teams that need reliable software, not one-off scripts.
  • Integrations across documents, tickets, databases, collaboration tools, and internal platforms.
  • Prototypes that move quickly and can be hardened into maintainable production systems when the value is proven.

Principal Accountabilities and % of time

Build full-stack solutions (45%)

Own contained projects and features from problem clarification through launch. Build backend services, frontend interfaces, data models, APIs, integrations, and workflow logic that solve practical business problems.

Use AI to accelerate delivery (20%)

Use tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Replit, or similar tools to plan, code, test, debug, document, and refactor. Validate AI output before it reaches users.

Translate business ambiguity into software (15%)

Clarify user needs, prioritize MVP features, ask probing questions, and choose practical technical approaches. Partner with senior engineers on broader architecture, security, and production-readiness decisions.

 Maintain quality and reliability (15%)

Write readable, modular code; add useful tests; debug issues across the stack; document important decisions; and support solutions after launch.

 Collaborate and learn(5%)

Work with business stakeholders, product owners, senior engineers, and other technology teams. Share reusable prompts, patterns, components, and lessons learned.

What Good Looks Like

  • You can break down a broad business problem, define the first useful solution, and deliver a working result.
  • You use AI tools fluently but do not outsource judgment to them.
  • You can explain your code, debug it, test it, and improve it after feedback.
  • You communicate trade-offs clearly to both engineers and business users.
  •  You recognize when to keep a solution simple and when to ask for senior engineering guidance.

Qualifications

Experience

We are looking for someone who has:

  • 3-5 years of professional software development experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A track record of shipping working software, whether in production roles, substantial internships, or serious personal projects.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of a real engineering workflow, or clear evidence of adopting them quickly and responsibly.
  • Comfort working through ambiguity, making pragmatic trade-offs, and communicating clearly with both engineers and business users.

 Required:

  • Strong coding fundamentals, including data structures, APIs, debugging, testing, and basic software design.
  • Working ability in at least one general-purpose programming language used for production software, ideally Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with SQL, relational data modeling, web applications, REST APIs, Git, pull requests, and code review.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools, or clear evidence that you can adopt them quickly and responsibly.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity, ask good questions, make pragmatic trade-offs, and communicate clearly.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Python, FastAPI, TypeScript, React, Svelte, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Docker, or cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Experience integrating with enterprise systems and APIs such as Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Jira, ServiceNow, Slack, or Teams.
  • Familiarity with LLM application patterns such as structured outputs, tool calling, retrieval, evals, prompt versioning, guardrails, memory, and human approval flows.
  • Experience building internal tools, workflow products, business process software, or AI-enabled applications.
  • Exposure to Power Platform, RPA tools, n8n, Zapier, or Make is helpful but not required.
