WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

Under general direction of Office Head and Talent VP, serve as senior level leader on people/consulting and staffing programs and initiatives for the office. This role oversees and manages the Senior Manager and Manager Programs and provides support and direction to the other program manager(s) overseeing the Consultant programs. 

 

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

This role drives and develops programs and processes to support key strategic business goals for the Chicago office and partners with senior leadership on various cross-office initiatives and projects.    

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Staffing: 

  • Partner with leadership team to understand staffing needs, including nature of assignments, staffing requirements, and oversee staffing of teams to projects based on understanding of client, office and individual needs.  
  • Oversee staffing decisions at the Senior Manager and Manager level, coordinating with AC and C/M Program Managers to staff balanced teams under team leads.  
  • Coordinate with local HR and the HR Operations Team on key people processes (e.g. BOSS, Trellis).
  • Team with the Recruiting Lead on consultant onboarding in order to optimize start dates, effectively use information on new start backgrounds/strengths and ensure a smooth start at Bain.
  • Coordinate with the Manager, Consulting Programs to oversee and maintain Staffing systems, reports, and provide regular updates to the Chicago Staffing and people leadership teams; develop and implement analytic tools to aid in management of Chicago’s consulting operations; work with Finance to provide insight and analysis into cost/revenue drivers.
  • Partner with senior leadership team to make recommendations around decisions to best optimize trade-offs between client service, utilization and retention.
  • Advise HR Partner and Office Head on forward-looking issues with meeting case portfolio needs and recommend solutions to meet any gaps identified.
  • Support Talent VP and NA Staffing Officers in cross-office/geo staffing processes. 
  • Lead capacity and headcount planning for the office at all levels across all timeframes (weekly, monthly, annually, 3-year plan).
  • Support program management strategy across all dimensions and classes.

Program/Class Management

  • Develop one-on-one transparent relationships with individuals in the Senior Manager and Manager classes to provide guidance and mentoring on career management.  Meet with individuals periodically to understand their professional development needs and preferences. Make trade-offs between client needs, office utilization, and individual needs. Monitor case team assignments to ensure individuals have a variety of consulting projects/diverse experiences.
  • Manage individual’s professional development and review all case end and PD reviews to ensure quality feedback and clear messages. Determine appropriate ratings for individuals or help PD Advisors calibrate on appropriate ratings for individuals in assigned cohort.
  • Drive promotion processes relevant to Senior Managers, including organizing content, briefing Office Head, conducting promotion messaging, coordinating with lane management and PD Advisors.
  • Responsible for successful on-boarding, affiliation, and ongoing learning of these individuals, including collaborating with cohort leaders on meeting content and providing guidance on trainings. Keep pulse on class and individual morale needs via frequent contact.  Determine strategy on ongoing training programs and initiatives to target specific PD/learning needs.
  • Partner with HR and the leadership team on performance management, employee relations and other issues related to employment law and policy matters.  
  • Monitor case teams to assess needs for transfer assignments, both incoming to the Chicago office, and outgoing to other offices.
  • Play leadership role as needed on initiative teams/task forces to drive improvements across class programs in North America.

Office Leadership/Operations: 

  • Manage Chicago office consulting staff pyramid; work with Finance to develop and drive 3-year plan/headcount forecasts and recruiting targets; perform attrition and pyramid analysis and action plans for consulting staff; develop forward-looking plans to respond to Chicago office resource needs.  

 

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Liberal Arts, related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. MBA preferred.
  • 10 years of professional experience minimum, five years of progressive experience in management required, preferably in a consulting role. Current or prior experience in a consulting position with Bain & Company is highly valued.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and quantitative skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and project management skills.
  • Ability to structure major presentations with clear, concise and compelling story lines.
  • Strong process skills of follow up and follow through.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively influence senior leadership, drive change and align programs/initiatives with strategic business goals.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and highly confidential information.

 

U.S. Compensation Information

 

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package (details listed below).

 

Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range to be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:

 

- In Chicago, IL, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $220,500-270,500; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level

 

- Annual discretionary performance bonus

- This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation

- 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after 3 years of service and is 100% vested upon start date
