WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
This full-time hybrid role is based in the Retail Center of Expertise (CoE) within our Bain Capability Network. You will partner closely with Bain’s global Retail Practice leadership, client-facing teams, and end clients to develop and deliver proprietary retail solutions addressing strategic topics such as category management, COGS optimization, pricing and promotion analytics, space optimization, and customer analytics.
You will work in multidisciplinary teams composed of Directors, Managers, Project Leads, Associates, and Analysts on engagements ranging from 3 weeks to 6 months. Delivery models vary and may include supporting global Bain case teams, collaborating directly with Partners, or working independently with end clients.
As part of Expert Client Delivery (ECD), you will contribute to a critical BCN function that supports Bain teams globally through advanced analytics and research across industries, corporate strategy cases, client development, private equity diligence, and intellectual property initiatives.
WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
As a Project Leader, Retail CoE within BCN, you will contribute as a lead of the team to build / perform solutions within the Retail domain (Grocery, Apparel, General Merchandise, e-commerce, B2B retail, etc.) and own individual cases with minimal support from supervisors (Manager / Senior Manager).
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Contribute as a team lead to build and deliver solutions within the Retail domain (Grocery, Apparel, General Merchandise, e-commerce, B2B retail, etc.)
- Own individual engagements end-to-end with minimal supervision from a Manager or Senior Manager
- Translate complex client requirements into structured, actionable workplans for the team
- Drive hypothesis-led problem solving, research, and insight generation
- Oversee and quality-check analyses to ensure outputs are accurate, error-free, and grounded in business context
- Work hands-on with retail data and advanced analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, KNIME, SQL, Python, R)
- Generate actionable insights across topics such as category management, COGS optimization, pricing & promotions, space optimization, and customer analytics
- Clearly communicate data-driven insights and strategic implications to clients and internal Bain stakeholders
- Lead focused internal and external meetings, presenting findings with clarity and impact
- Manage and develop a team of Analysts and Associates, including work allocation, coaching, feedback, and performance reviews
- Build expertise in existing retail products and contribute to the development of new solutions and capabilities
- Support recruiting, training, and broader capability-building initiatives within the Retail CoE
ABOUT YOU
Required:
- Willing and able to work in a hybrid set-up, with 4 days per week on-site (Bain office in Polanco) or at a client location
- Undergraduate degree with 5–8 years of relevant experience, or postgraduate degree with 3–6 years of relevant experience, in management consulting, business analytics, or Consumer Products/Retail within a global, multinational environment
- Proficient in written and spoken English (C1–C2 level), with the ability to confidently lead discussions, deliver presentations, and manage senior internal and external stakeholders
- Proven ability to translate business objectives into structured workplans and executable project plans
- Demonstrated experience applying advanced analytics to business problems and synthesizing complex data into clear, actionable insights
- Hands-on experience with ETL and visualization tools (e.g., Alteryx, KNIME, SQL, Tableau, Power BI)
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Willingness and ability to travel regionally as required; travel frequency and destinations will vary based on project needs
Nice to Have
- Experience leading small teams (3–4 members), with the ability to coach and mentor others
- Working knowledge of Python or R
- Experience with statistical modelling
- Familiarity with key retail data sources, metrics, and at least one Retail sub-sector
