WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
The Manager, HR & Talent provides hands-on HR support and partnership for the Manager, Senior Manager, and Functional Professional cohorts in Bain’s New York office. This role is responsible for executing HR programs, managing employee relations and risk, and ensuring consistent delivery of Bain’s people processes in collaboration with the HR Director, Staffing, and regional HR colleagues. This position requires sound judgment, discretion, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to build credibility with employees and leaders at all levels. The HR Manager acts as a trusted advisor and liaison between employees, office leadership, and global HR teams, ensuring a high-quality employee experience across the lifecycle.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
HR Business Partnering
- Serve as the primary HR Business Partner for Managers, Senior Managers, and Functional Professionals in the New York office.
- Provide day-to-day HR guidance on performance, progression, feedback and career development
- Partner closely with Staffing, Program Management, and local leadership to support employee experience, development, and retention.
- Deliver HR programs locally, ensuring alignment with global policies and processes as directed by the HR Director.
- Provide coaching and advice to managers on handling sensitive or complex employee issues with fairness and consistency.
Employee Relations & Risk Management
- Act as the first point of contact for employee relations concerns within the supported cohorts; manage investigations and ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation.
- Escalate complex or high-risk matters to the HR Director and Employee Relations team as appropriate.
- Participate in the Office Situational Response Team, supporting incident management and policy application.
Performance & Talent Management
- Coordinate and administer the performance review process for assigned cohorts, ensuring timely completion and quality feedback.
- Partner with Staffing and Program Management to facilitate ratings, promotion, and compensation processes.
- Provide clear communication to managers and employees about review timelines, expectations, and outcomes.
- Support onboarding and integration for new hires and leadership transfers within the cohorts.
Employee Experience & Engagement
- Help coordinate and execute engagement and inclusion initiatives that strengthen community and belonging in the New York office.
- Participate in class meetings, pulse check reviews, and employee feedback discussions to gather insights and share with HR leadership.
- Support local events, trainings, and programs that reinforce Bain’s culture and values.
Operational & Team Responsibilities
- Manage and coach HR Coordinator(s) or Specialists, ensuring high-quality execution of HR transactions and strong service delivery.
- Partner with regional and global HR teams on mobility, benefits, and Workday-related actions.
- Maintain accurate and compliant employee data and documentation.
- Support ad hoc HR projects and initiatives as assigned by the HR Director.
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management; Psychology or Business-related discipline
- Comprehensive knowledge of functional areas of HR, typically gained through at least 6 to 8 years of progressive HR experience
- Strong interpersonal, communication and project management skills
- ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- solid organizational skills and attention to detail
- strong process skills of follow up and follow through
- Sound judgment when dealing with confidential information
- Ability to interact with employees (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with the highest levels of professionalism
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Experience with Workday is a plus
- Experience in a professional services environment is highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience working in an office start-up environment is preferred
- In-office expectations: Minimum of three days per week, including two anchor days (Wednesday and Friday)
U.S. COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service, and Bain’s best-in-class benefits package.
Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:
- In New York City, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $122,000 - $146,500. Placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, licensure/certifications, training, and skill level.
For all other locations, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates for this role and will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level.
Additional compensation may include:
- Annual discretionary performance bonus
- 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, increasing after 3 years and fully vested upon start
