WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH:
We are seeking an experienced leader in performance improvement to join our Tokyo office as part of Bain’s Performance Improvement practice. This role sits within a growing and strategically important capability for the firm, working at the intersection of cost transformation, operational excellence, and large-scale change.
You will collaborate with a broad network of Bain Partners, consultants, and domain experts, operating as part of integrated case teams to deliver sustained client impact. In close partnership with case team and client leadership, you will help shape and execute performance improvement strategies across cost, operations, and transformation agendas, with a strong emphasis on implementation and results.
As a senior member of the team, you will engage closely with executive-level client stakeholders, building trusted relationships and helping organizations navigate complex challenges to achieve measurable outcomes.
You will also contribute to the continued growth of the Performance Improvement practice, supporting capability building, mentoring team members, and advancing Bain’s expertise and impact in the market.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As an Expert in Bain’s Performance Improvement practice, you will:
- Collaborate with Bain Partners, consulting teams, and senior client executives to diagnose performance gaps and identify opportunities across cost, operations, and organizational effectiveness
- Lead the design and delivery of performance improvement programs, including cost transformation, operational excellence, procurement optimization, and end-to-end transformation initiatives
- Translate strategic priorities into practical, results-focused initiatives, working closely with clients to implement change and deliver measurable, sustained improvements in performance
- Guide teams and clients through data-driven diagnostics, benchmarking, and value capture planning, ensuring a clear link between insights and financial impact
- Drive disciplined execution through strong governance, performance tracking, and change management, helping clients embed improvements and sustain results over time
- Bring deep functional expertise to support problem solving across industries, contributing to high-quality, actionable recommendations and tangible outcomes
- Contribute to the development of Bain’s Performance Improvement capabilities, including tools, methodologies, and intellectual property that differentiate our approach in the market
- Play a key role in client development efforts, acting as a trusted advisor in proposals and helping shape impactful, results-oriented transformation agendas
- Mentor and develop team members, supporting capability building and helping to grow Bain’s Performance Improvement practice
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends in cost and operational transformation, bringing innovative perspectives and best practices to clients
BAIN’S PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT PRACTICE – JAPAN
Bain’s Performance Improvement (PI) practice is a key strategic priority in Japan. The practice supports clients across industries to achieve sustainable improvements in performance.
The PI practice focuses on helping organizations unlock value through cost and complexity transformation, operational excellence, and business support function optimization. Engagements range from targeted initiatives that deliver rapid impact to full-scale transformation programs that fundamentally redefine how work gets done.
Bain brings deep functional expertise and a hands-on, results-oriented approach, working closely with clients from the C-suite to frontline teams to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and overall business performance.
We are investing significantly in expanding our Performance Improvement capabilities in Japan and across the region, strengthening its product offering, enhancing delivery models, and continuing to build a high-calibre team of experts to support growing client demand and deliver lasting impact.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone who has:
- A strong track record of delivering performance improvement outcomes, with deep expertise across areas such as cost transformation, operational excellence, procurement, supply chain, or large-scale transformation
- Experience drawn from a combination of consulting and/or industry roles, with the ability to bring practical, execution-focused perspectives to client challenges
- Demonstrated success in building trusted, long-term relationships with senior stakeholders, including C-level executives
- A proven ability to translate complex business issues into clear, actionable strategies, with a focus on driving measurable financial and operational impact
- Deep domain expertise complemented by strong client leadership, engagement delivery, and team development capabilities
- A bias toward results, with experience leading implementation and ensuring sustained performance improvement outcomes
- The presence and credibility to represent Bain with senior executives and contribute as a trusted advisor alongside firm leadership
- The ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment, working across functions and levels to deliver impact
- A strong commitment to mentoring and developing others, helping to build and scale high-performing teams
- A hands-on, pragmatic approach, with the energy and drive to lead teams and deliver exceptional results for clients
- Near-native fluency in Japanese and strong business-level English, with the ability to operate effectively across local and regional teams
