WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

This role reports into a Senior Director on the Program Management (PM) team with regular touchpoints across the full PM team, with the HR Partner, the Office Head, the local Human Resources team, and regional HR Operations team.

 

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

Provide leadership and support for all 1st and 2nd year Consultants programs, including staffing, performance management and integration within the Chicago office. Successful implementation of the various programs requires strong program management skills, thorough knowledge of policies and procedures, and effective communication. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Consultant Staffing

  • Coordinate with case team leadership to understand staffing needs, including nature of assignment, staffing requirements, and oversee staffing of teams to projects based on understanding of client, office and individual needs.
  • Work with leadership team HR Partner to ensure staffing decisions best optimize tradeoffs between client service, utilization and retention, specific to C1 and C2 classes.
  • Ensure current capacity at the C1 and C2 level are up to date and accurate to ensure both short-term and long-term pyramid planning and informed personnel decisions and weekly GP capacity planning.

Consultant Program/Class Management

  • Develop one-on-one relationships with 1st and 2nd year Consultants to provide guidance and mentoring on career management. Regularly meet with each individual to discuss their career development, goals, objectives, and interests.  Makes tradeoffs between client needs, office utilization and individual needs.
  • Monitor case team assignments to ensure Consulting staff have a variety of consulting projects and diverse experiences.
  • Manage professional development of Consulting staff.   Review all case end and consensus reviews to ensure quality feedback and clear messaging.  Determine appropriate ratings for individuals or help consensus reviewers settle on appropriate ratings for individuals in assigned cohort.
  • Hold regular class meetings and trainings; invite relevant parties to ensure Consulting staff are provided relevant content as pertains to their careers.
  • Partner with HR on performance management, employee relations and other issues related to employment law, risk and policy matters.
  • Coordinate with HR on transfer process and leaves of absence for consulting staff 
  • Recruit and interview for Consultants as necessary.   
  • Participate in the development and recommendation operating policy and procedural improvements for Consulting staff.
  • Work with HR on processes impacting including Upward Feedback, Ratings, case-end and consensus reviews, and CTSU.
  • Own data integrity within staffing system (BOSS) for assigned cohorts.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned including leading strategic initiatives such as sustainability task force, Consultant/Manager value proposition, etc. and proactively identify areas for process improvement and drive execution, applying deep functional knowledge of programs and processes.

Capacity Planning and Analytics

  • Manage the process (alternating with other program managers) of maintaining availability of consulting staff, accounting for case activity, vacations and training conflicts, incoming and outgoing personnel, and tracking of upcoming case roll points
  • Actively translate forward looking capacity view into team availability by week for reporting to regional staffing team and Office Heads
  • Act as point person for in answering any questions about upcoming availability and impact of potential cases/backfills/departures.
  • Conduct ad hoc analytics as needed on long-term capacity trends (e.g. attrition rates).
  • Prepare periodic talent pyramid updates for Office Head review and office meetings.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management, Liberal Arts, related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required. MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience is required, 5 years of progressive experience in management required, preferably in a consulting role. Current or prior experience in a consulting position with Bain & Company is highly valued.
  • Deep knowledge of professional services, preferably consulting operations and the various roles.  
  • Strong customer service, meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills necessary
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving solving and quantitative skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Ability to deal with highly confidential information appropriately; ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint is required.

 

U.S. Compensation Information

 

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package (details listed below).

 

Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range to be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:

 

- In Chicago, IL, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $191,000 - $230,000; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level

 

- Annual discretionary performance bonus

- This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation

- 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after 3 years of service and is 100% vested upon start date
