Who You Will Work With 

Bain’s Sustainability Center of Excellence (CoE) plays a pivotal role in advancing the firm’s sustainability and carbon management initiatives. This position involves managing smaller sustainability cases, supporting complex cases under the direction of Project Leaders, and delivering actionable insights that drive Bain’s global sustainability goals.

As part of the S&R Flex Team, the Associate operates globally across diverse industries, managing 1–3 Analysts, and contributes to Bain’s offerings related to S&R practice. The role emphasizes working with frameworks such as the GHG Protocol, analyzing Scope 1–3 emissions, and staying abreast of carbon regulations. The Associate also applies technical expertise by implementing small-scale automation solutions using coding and AI tools.

 

What You'll do

  • Case Management and Problem Solving
    1. Lead discrete workstreams or smaller sustainability cases, ensuring high-quality delivery and strong client impact
    2. Structure complex problems, define analytical approaches, and own analyses end-to-end under Project Leader guidance
    3. Review Analyst outputs, resolve challenges, and translate findings into clear recommendations
  • Sustainability Expertise
    1. Build and apply expertise across topics including decarbonization, emissions benchmarking, regulations, and sustainability strategy
    2. Apply relevant frameworks such as Scope 1/2/3 emissions, target setting, transition pathways, CSRD, and CDP
    3. Stay current on emerging sustainability topics and translate developments into practical client insights
  • Data Analysis and Technical Proficiency
    1. Use tools such as Excel, Alteryx, Tableau, Tableau Prep, and Power BI to analyze complex datasets and create impactful visualizations
    2. Build analytical models to support benchmarking, scenario assessment, and strategy development
    3. Apply automation, coding, and AI-enabled approaches to improve analytical rigor and team efficiency
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
    1. Communicate findings and implications clearly to internal and external stakeholders, including senior Bain leadership
    2. Collaborate with Project Leaders, case teams, and experts to resolve issues across workstreams
    3. Manage and coach Analysts and contribute to S&R CoE IP, tools, and capability development


About You

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2–5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 0–3 years of relevant experience
  • Prior exposure to sustainability, consulting, data analytics, engineering, economics, environmental studies, or a related field is strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, with experience using at least one analytics or visualization tool such as Alteryx, Tableau, Tableau Prep, or Power BI
  • Working knowledge of sustainability topics such as emissions benchmarking, decarbonization, regulatory analysis, or disclosure frameworks
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and team-management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with coding, automation, and AI tools is preferred but not mandatory
